浅谈PEP小学英语教材的作业设计

随着国家英语新课程标准出台,PEP整套教材的设计体现了以下目标:让学生对英语有持续的兴趣和爱好,能用简单的英语互致问候,交换有关个人、家庭和朋友的简单信息,能根据所学内容表演对话,能在图片的帮助下听懂、读懂并讲述简单的故事,能根据图片或提示写简单的句子,在学习中乐于参与,积极合作,主动请教,乐于了解异国文化和习俗。那么,英语教师如何遵循教材编排原则,设计精彩有趣、形式多变的课内外作业,让学生在作业中愉悦身心,在作业中学习就显得尤为重要。下面笔者结合本人的教学实践,谈谈课改后的新型英语作业的布置形式。

一、走进生活,让学生感知语言,激发学生学习的欲望

英语越来越受重视的今天,越来越多的英语出现在我们周围。根据小学生天性好奇的特点,我鼓励他们走进生活,去找一找身边的单词和句子。同时,让他们把想学的用一个本子记下来。可想而知,学生们兴趣盎然。有的走上大街,抄下了“Serve the people,Serve the Society”(服务于人民,服务于社会),“Welcome to the Three Gorge”(欢迎到三峡),有的抄下了自家电器的名称,有的把带有英语单词的衣服带到学校,还有的学生变通了我的作业。记得一天早晨一个学生匆匆跑来对我说:老师,我今天特别想学会“了不起,三峡大坝!”。通过这种作业的设计,学生不仅掌握了新的知识,更重要的是他们在这种“自我发现”式的学习中,发现了日常生活处处有英语,由此感受到学习英语的重要性,从而激发了他们学习的欲望。

二、“演演”“唱唱”“画画”,帮助学生理解语言,形成持续的学习兴趣

小学生是活泼好动的,他们爱说、爱笑、爱唱、爱玩。所以,教师在教给学生单词、句型后,切忌让学生死记单词,繁琐地去抄写。这样,会使学生感到头痛,产生厌烦心理,过早地扼杀了他们学习英语的兴趣。教师不妨把作业设计得新颖一点,灵活一点,采取演演、唱唱、画画等学生喜闻乐见的形式,让学生学得高兴、轻松,保持持久的学习兴趣。

例如,PEP教材中,有“Story time”这个交际板块,与其让学生跟着录音磁带去模仿可爱的Zoom和Zip,不如让学生把故事表演出来。在教学Book Ⅱ Unit 4《Story time》时,课前我和学生把教室布置成一个诱人的“Buffet”(自助餐馆),课中让学生A、B、C分别扮演Zoom、Zip、Waiter,学生在积极参与的过程中培养了团结合作的精神和交际能力,增强了学习兴趣。

又如,学习各种交通工具名称后,我让学生和我一起比赛画一画。老师一系列的“Let’s draw a car.”“Show me your cat.”“Whose car is beautiful?”训练了学生的“听”,学生在边画边

说的环节中训练了“说”,在边看边玩的过程中训练了“交际”。抽象的单词记忆和图片结合起来,产生了较好的教学效果。

PEP教材有一些韵律歌、英文歌,曲帮助学生去巩固、记忆句型,但我觉得这远远满足不了学生爱唱的需求。随着学生英语知识的增加,技能的增强,我往往在学习一种新句型后,自己和学生一起来谱曲唱一唱、跳一跳,并让学生回家自己谱上各自喜欢的曲子,第二天让他们表演。那场面别提有多生动!学生们自我表现和自我成功的欲望在课堂上尽情展现出来。

三、“说说”“做做”,帮助学生运用语言,形成积极主动的学习态度

随着学习的深入,学生不再满足找找、演演、唱唱、画画了,他们还需要教师去设计一些富有挑战性的作业,能够培养他们创新思维和独立思考的能力。因此,根据小学生模仿力强的特点,我自费订阅了《学英语》报,让他们学着编辑英语黑板报和各种英语小报;请他们帮忙制作英语标志牌;业余时间,鼓励他们模仿课文朗读并制成录音带;制作个人英语歌曲专辑,节日期间作为礼物赠予亲朋好友。遇上大型文艺演出,我总是鼓励他们把喜爱的童话故事以英语的形式搬上舞台。

以上这些新鲜、有活力的作业,常常使学生全身心地投入,在玩的过程中,英语这门课程不知不觉带给他们许多快乐,这正是我们老师所希望看到的。
