Good afternoon,everyone.To begin my speech,I want to present you a story first.Suppose you are driving a trolley car,at the end of the track,there are five workers working on it.You want to stop,but the brakes don't work.You feel desperate because you know for sure that if you crash into the five workers,they will all die.But soon you notice that at the end of the track,there's a side track,and only one worker there.Your steering wheel still works,so you can turn the trolley car,if you want to,to the side track,killing the one,but saving the five.

What do you think is the right thing to do?Now here comes the point of my speech:what's the right thing to do?It's a topic about justice.I guess most of you would choose to sacrifice the one,because five lives versus one,it seems more like a numerical problem.Now let me change the hypothesis a little bit.The five are not workers now,suppose they are a group of prinsoners,who are to be sent to death the next day,while the one is a president,who is leading

the independence movement in his nation.Now what's your judgement?I can see that all of you would change your mind,go ahead to kill the five rather than the one.But what makes the difference in these two cases?The number is still the same,5 to 1.But here,the one means a lot more than the five.Maybe we can explain it with the concept of our sense of justice.A majority of us might agree that the right thing to

do,the just thing to do,is to maximize(对。。极为重视) the overall level of happiness,to put it simply,the great good for the great number.And that's justice as most people consider it to be.But my question is,is the intention for the interest of the majority group or even the public good,sufficent enought to justify our acts to the minority,to sacrifice them for the collective happiness?Nowadays we are talking more and more about public good,taking it for granted that some price has to be paid during this process of achieving it.But is this the real case?Is the right of the minority so negligible when compared with the so-called public good,is the voice of the minority so feeble when faced with the overwhelming hail of the majority,that we

can pretend unseen,unheard,casting them away,and go straight forward to pursue our greatest good? Ladies and gentlemen,we are not caught in the dilemma of life and death in the real life as the story I told you earlier.What we appeal for is to put more attention on the minority side,to make their voice heard,to involve them in the discussion when making judgement,to empower them to exercise the right to speak out and vote,before we can say what's really the right thing,the best way to do.

Go out and meet those peddlers who are chased away everyday by the municipal administration in the name of order and public security.Go out and meet those nail household who stand desperately in the debris of their houses for the sake of the government's construction program.What does justice mean to them?Justice can never be viewed only in a general and collective perspective.It has to be practical to every individual,especially the minority group.And if China is to be a great nation,if a harmonious society is to be built up,this must

become true,that the minority be guaranteed full respect for their right and interest.

This is our hope.This should be the faith our university students step into the society with,knowing that we will see the justice be done some day,knowing that a strong and prosperous future is not far away as we move on.Thank you very much.

I’ m Wen Fei from Xin Jian middle school. I’ m glad that I can stand here to share my teaching experience and feelings with you.

I have been teaching English for six years. During this period, I maturated a lot with children’s growth and leaders’ help. People ofen say memory is real because it can prove your youth and maturate. So it does for me. The days with children are just right before my eyes when I recall the past events. It’s they who have a great effect on me. It’s they who make me cry, laugh and move.

What impressed me most was those left-behind children who were naughty and couldn’t get A in exams. Zhang qiang ,a little boy of Grade 4, was quiet. And He always kept silent and seldom smiled in class, let alone interact with his classmates when discussing. He just sat in his seat and studied like a horse, which caused my attention. I thought there must be a story behind him. So I had a long talk with his headteacher. The background of him chilled my heart. His mother left the family after his birth, his father just worked outside and seldom came back home to visit him. So he lived alone with his grandma of 67. He often helped with housework and farmwork. I was shocked then. Such a little boy has borne more than

what he shouldn’t bear.

So I hope I can help him. Then I paid more attention to him and named him to speak loudly in front of us each class. Besides I talked with him after class or at lunch break. What’s more ,I tutored his lessons alone in my free time. All I have done, I hope, could enlighten him to be more outgoing and confident as well as to understand the importance of study. As I expected. He did make it.

In fact,children like Zhang qiang are quite common in our countryside. Due to lacking of parents’ care or love, some of them are dissocial and self-contemptuous. Some even acted as troublemakers to get more attention. Still some hate their parents,which has greatly influenced their growth and mental health.

Facing such a special group I think we should pay more attention to them in life and be more patient with them even if they are trouble makers The most important is to show our love and care to them.

As a teacher, what I have done is not enough. But I will try my best to create an azure sky for those left-behind children with love, especially in the countryside.

This is a glass of water, tasteless, right? However if you add sugar, it will taste sweet, but if you add vinegar, it will become bitter. The same is true with our life____ the flavor is created by our choices.

So my dear friends, never complain that life is boring and the world is disappointing. If don‘t like the taste of your life, change the ingredients.

Three year ago, I weighed more than 100 hundred kilograms which caused significant embarrassment and frustration in my life. Like always failing my P.E examinations, like always being laughed at by girls, like being terrified to speak in public. It was my grandmother‘s encouragement that revived from my passive attitude to become confident in myself. She said ― My dear, if you can‘t change you figure, why not treat it as your own style. So I began to cautiously employ the new way of thinking. By choosing to change my outlook on life, I developed the confidence to make a difference and finally I found a totally new world.

We can make western ideas, customs and technology our own, and adapt them to our own use. We can enjoy the best of both worlds, because our tradition is, above all, one of selecting the best and making it our own. I love Beijing and Hennan opera because it always reminds me of who I am. But I am also a fan of pop music, especially English songs. So I have combined eastern melody with western language. It is called western henna opera.

When two cultures meet, there may be things in one culture, which do not fit into the tradition of the other. Who was the most well-known figure in China last month? It‘s Ma JiaJue—the college student who murdered 4 of his roommates. Many people attributed his crime to his poverty and deficient education. In my opinion, his crime also has much to do with his classmates‘

indifference.

Indifference is a terrible disease in today‘s colleges and the whole society. It‘s not rare that two students who have studied together for 4 years have never spoken to each other. It‘s not rare that a student who has been absent from class for several days is not noticed at all. It‘s also not rare that a student who has severe psychological problems is not cared about at all.

Some people may say ‗What the students with psychological problems like Ma JiaJue need is not care but psychotherapy.‖ However, when people are ill, what they need most is not only medical treatment, but also care from people around them. Every smile and every caring word will bring sunshine to their life.

I once heard one of my roommates who was an introverted girl sobbing at mid-night. Being afraid of disturbing her, I sent a text message to comfort her. The next day, she told me that she was crying for not being invited to one of her friend‘s birthday party. She thought she was neglected by others. But my message was really comforting which told her someone still cared about her.

What can we do to prevent the tragedy of Ma JiaJue from happening again? 走出冷漠

I Am Tripping My Elephant Here

Once upon a time, a weenie ant was walking on his way. As he was walking, suddenly he felt the ground shaking terribly. He looked around with his paranoid eyes and saw an elephant walking right behind him. Quickly, the little ant covered himself with dirt, but one leg was unfortunately left out. A sparrow saw everything, so she flew down with the purpose of teasing the ant: ―Hey, chicken! Watch out your leg, it‘s out!‖ The ant felt embarrassed at first but then calmly responded: ― Shi…I am going to trip that elephant.‖

Right now, I‘m standing on this glamorous stage. But everything here reminds me of is a not so fun memory. Around this time last year I was in Nanjing competing in another speech contest. That was the first time for me to be in such a large event. Of course the pressure I was under was immense too. After a sleepless and stressful night, I went onto that stage without the feeling in my legs. That speech turned out to be horrible. I don‘t remember how I get down from there, but I do remember afterwards I just wanted to find a hole to hide in just like the ant in the story. Back at my school, it took a long time for me to recover. Thanks to all the help I got from my special friends. My confidence was restored. After rounds of giving speeches and answering tough questions, I am here today.
